Tier maker or tier list maker?

Tier maker and tier list maker describe the same tool, and people search for both. You will also see it written as tierlist maker, tier maker list, tier list creator, tier list generator or simply tier chart. They all mean a tool that takes a set of items and sorts them into ranked rows. There is no functional difference between them, so whichever name brought you here, this is the thing you were looking for.

If you want the background rather than the tool, what a tier list is covers where the format came from and how to read one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tier maker?

A tier maker is a tool for sorting items into ranked tiers, usually labelled S, A, B, C, D and F from best to worst. You add the things you want to rank, drag each one into a tier, and share or download the finished chart. Tier maker and tier list maker mean the same thing.

Is a tier maker the same as a tier list maker?

Yes. Tier maker, tier list maker, tier maker list, tierlist maker and tier list creator are all names for the same kind of tool - one that builds a tier list. The shorter "tier maker" is simply how many people search for it. TierSort is all of them.

Is this tier list maker free?

Yes. Making, exporting and sharing a tier list is free, and there is no account or signup required. Nothing is added to your exported image.

What do S, A, B, C, D and F tier mean?

They are rank labels running from best to worst. S sits above A and marks the standouts - the S comes from Japanese grading, where an S was awarded above an A for exceptional work. A through D descend in quality, and F, borrowed from the American failing grade, is an optional bottom rank.

Can I use my own images in a tier list?

Yes. You can upload your own images and drag them into tiers alongside or instead of template items. Images stay in your browser until you choose to save or share the list.

Can I add, rename or recolour the tiers?

Yes. Every row can be renamed and recoloured, and you can add or delete rows. A tier list does not have to use S to F - some people use numbers, words, or a simple yes and no split.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. On touch devices you tap an item and then tap the tier you want it in, which is more reliable than dragging on a small screen. Everything else works the same as on desktop.

What can I rank with a tier list?

Anything you can put in a list. Tier lists started in fighting game communities for ranking characters, and are now used for films, food, sports teams, music, album tracks, programming languages and much else.

Do I need to download anything?

No. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install and it works on school and work networks where app downloads are blocked.
